Fluorescent Carbon Nanoparticles Derived from Candle Soot

Y’all know: one of these days it had to happen. When we created this blog, we almost called it something like “soot world”, indicating that what many chemists consider to be dirt, goo and soot in effect are interesting molecules, polymers or oligomers. Whatever. Cool stuff you can put in an nmr tube (anyone remember […]

Carbon nanotubes

Carbon Nanotubes, as cool and hype as its name suggests, are rather old and part of human technology (And we thought Carbon Nano Tubes were new….) — and definitely in the universe per se. Nevertheless the original discovery of non-planar graphite-derived 3D-shaped molecules was a major breakthrough and lead to a nobel prize in chemistry […]

And we thought Carbon Nano Tubes were new….

Today I found a bit of news on Natures homepage. It looks like carbon nano tubes are not as new as we all might have believed. The material obviously played a role in the manufacture of Damascus blades.

Now what are Bayer going to do with Baytubes? Will those patents hold up
